More common and more accepted in today’s age, dreadlocks are a fashion statement just like any other look. Let’s tackle the five misconceptions people have about the infamous hairstyle:

    1. Dirty dreads: Dreads are actually easier than ever to maintain. There are specific, no-residue shampoos that make it simple to maintain clean, tamed dreads by simply shampooing them once a week.

    2. Homeless chic: They’re seen everyday in the media. Dreads are donned by an array of famous actors, singers, and athletes. There are professions out there where expressing your individuality is not only accepted but encouraged.

    3. Dreadlocks for everyone: Dreadlocks are unisex and can look attractive on both girls and guys alike. You don’t have to be of a certain race, culture, or class to rock dreads. If you have the desire and patience, they can by worn by every one.

    4. Dreads for life: You don’t have to shave your head if you no longer want dreads–in most cases dreads have to be grown out to a certain extent in order to create a new style.

    5. There are options: Whether you get them done professionally at a hair salon or choose to do them yourself, there are many options on how to start forming dreads. Keep in mind that if you do them yourself, they can take a few months to transform into the look that you want, but if you have them done in the salon you can have the look instantly.
